Terriers Trek to Northern Michigan for Pair of Games

The Boston University men's ice hockey team will head west this weekend when the Terriers trek to the Upper Peninsula for a pair of games at Northern Michigan. Puck drop on Friday and Saturday is set for 7 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- These two tilts will be the Terriers' first true road games against a non-conference opponent since Jan. 11, 2020,, when they drove to Dartmouth.
- This is the Terriers' first time having to fly to a game since the 2018-19 season when the Terriers traveled to Minnesota State on Oct. 12-13 for the first two contests of the year.
- BU was swept by UMass Lowell this past weekend, suffering a 3-0 setback at Agganis Arena on Friday before a 2-1 loss at Tsongas Center on Saturday.
- Junior Case McCarthy scored the Terriers' lone goal of the weekend thanks to an assist from classmate Robert Mastrosimone.
- Sophomore Drew Commesso made 45 saves over the weekend.
- BU went 6-for-6 on the penalty kill over the weekend.
- Seventeen different Terriers have registered a point this season, including 12 different goal scorers.
- Junior Wilmer Skoog leads BU with four goals and seven points.
- Fourteen different BU skaters have at least two points through the first eight games.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
- Northern Michigan began the season 2-0 but has lost five straight, though all five losses have been to teams currently ranked in the national polls.
- That includes a pair of road defeats to No. 2 Minnesota State.
- Junior AJ Vanderbeck and sophomore Mikey Colella lead the team with five goals apiece while senior Hampus Eriksson has recorded a team-high seven assists.
- The Wildcats have two of the CCHA's top-nine scorers in Vanderbeck and junior Hank Crone; Crone played for the Terriers during the 2017-18 season.
- Sophomore Rico DiMatteo had a career-high 43 saves this past Friday against Minnesota State.
- He owns a 4.10 goals-against average and an .866 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers are 3-7-2 all-time against Northern Michigan in a series that began during the 1984-85 season.
- This weekend marks the Terriers' first visit to Northern Michigan since Jan. 8, 1988; they have yet to earn a road win against the Wildcats.
- They will be playing at the Berry Events Center for the first time.
- All three Terrier wins in the series have been in Massachusetts.
- The two schools famously met in the 1991 national title game, which NMU won in triple overtime.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE WILDCATS
- BU hosted Northern Michigan at Agganis Arena on Oct. 18-19, 2019.
- The teams skated to a 4-4 tie the first night before NMU earned a 4-3 win the next day.
- Logan Cockerill scored a power-play goal in the 4-4 tie.
- Robert Mastrosimone assisted on Cockerill's strike while Alex Vlasic also recorded an assist.
- Domenick Fensore notched the first two assists of his collegiate career in the 4-3 loss.

- BU will return to Boston for the start of a home-and-home series with defending national champion UMass on Nov. 12 and 13.
