GENEVA, N.Y. - Three members of the Boston University field hockey team have earned NFHCA Division I All-Region honors as sophomore Payton Anderson was named to the first team and senior Rachel Borzymowski and junior Thalia Steenssens collected second-team recognition, as announced on Tuesday by the NFHCA.
Borzymowski made the NFHCA All-Region Second Team for the second consecutive year while Anderson and Steenssens received the first regional honors of their career.
The first sophomore to ever be named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, Anderson made a successful move to center back after spending her rookie year as a forward and totaled 20 points on nine goals and two assists. Four of her goals were game-winners and she assisted on the winning goal in the league semifinals. She scored five goals in the final three regular season games and helped the Terriers earned the No. 1 seed in the PL tournament for the sixth time in the past eight years.
Now a two-time All-Patriot League and all-region honoree, Borzymowski was the veteran leader of the team's defensive unit for the past two seasons and also contributed on the other end, including two goals in a win over Holy Cross. She became the first player in program history to be named the Patriot League Scholar-Athelete of the Year and joined Casey Thompson as the only Terriers to be named the Academic All-Patriot League Field Hockey Team three times.
Steenssens was a huge factor all over the field for the Terriers this season, as the midfielder was critical in the possession game and helped create chances. She tied for the team lead in assists with nine, which ranked third in the PL, and added a goal for 11 points. Her goal was an overtime winner against Northeastern and she helped the Terriers defeat then-No. 23 Maine with a four-assist performance, one shy of the program's single-game record.
