Duplessis, Fensore Earn Hockey East Monthly Awards
March 1, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMESBURY, Mass. - Sophomore Vinny Duplessis and junior Domenick Fensore of the Boston University men's ice hockey team each earned a monthly award from Hockey East, the league announced on Tuesday.
Duplessis was selected as the league's Goaltender of the Month while Fensore was recognized as the Hockey East Defender of the Month. Both players were instrumental in the Terriers' 5-1-0 record during February.
A two-time Hockey East Goaltender of the Week, Duplessis was terrific in five February starts. He went 5-0-0 with a .945 save percentage and a 1.40 goals-against average. Duplessis also posted two shutouts, including a 19-save effort to backstop BU to a 1-0 victory over Northeastern in the Beanpot final. That was his second shutout of the month, as he opened February with a 27-save performance in a 4-0 triumph over Maine. A native of Quebec City, Duplessis allowed just four even-strength goals in February en route to the second monthly award of his career; he earned Hockey East Rookie of the Month honors last February.
Fensore was the league's most dynamic defender in February. He led the Terriers with an incredible 10 assists, tied for second in the NCAA, and 11 blocked shots. His 10 total points also led BU and was 13th among all skaters in the nation. A Hobey Baker Award nominee, Fensore notched an assist in all six games, including three multi-assist efforts, and had a helper on the Terriers' Beanpot-winning goal. He set a new career high with three assists in a 6-3 win over Boston College and had two assists in wins over Harvard (Beanpot semifinals) and at Providence. This is the first monthly honor for Fensore.
BU boasts the last three Hockey East Goaltender of the Month selections, as sophomore Drew Commesso received that recognition in both December and January. Fensore is the second Terrier to win the league's Defender of the Month award, as Case McCarthy did so in November.
The Terriers will close out the regular season this weekend with a pair of games at Maine.
