The Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue the 2022 season on Saturday when the No. 14 Terriers host Navy in the first game of Lax-A-Palooza at Nickerson Field. Opening faceoff is set for 12 p.m., with the women's lacrosse team scheduled to face Lafayette at 4 p.m.
Fans can come out for the day and enjoy a free barbeque, a 21+ beer garden, music and more. If the Terriers score 10 goals, fans can receive a free taco from El Jefe's Taqueria (while supplies last). There is also free admission for youth (eighth grade and under) on Saturday.
The Terriers will also recognize their Class of 2020 on Saturday with both a pregame and halftime presentation. Reece Eddy,
Nicholas Ellerton, Chase Levesque, Joe McSorley, Jared Nugent, Kaveh Torabian and Josh Williamson will return to Nickerson Field for the day.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU improved to 7-1 overall and is off to its best-ever start in the Patriot League (4-0) after a record-setting 21-11 win over Lafayette last weekend.
- The Terriers can clinch a berth in the Patriot League postseason with a win.
- Junior Vince D'Alto became just the eighth person ever to record 14 points in a single game thanks to his seven-goal, seven-assist effort against the Leopards.
- D'Alto notched his 100th career point in the process and extended his goal scoring streak to 21 games.
- Senior Timmy Ley owns the longest active goal scoring streak in the nation at 30 games.
- Junior Conor Calderone matched an NCAA record with 32 faceoff wins in a 32-of-34 performance at the X.
- Calderone also tied a conference record with 21 ground balls.
- D'Alto, Calderone, junior LSM Roy Meyer and senior goalkeeper Matt Garber were all recognized as Midseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse.
- Meyer is second in the nation with 3.12 caused turnovers per game to help BU rank first in that category at 12.62 caused turnovers per game.
- Garber is third in the nation with a .590 save percentage and is sixth in the NCAA with a 9.16 goals-against average.
- BU and Navy are tied for third in the NCAA in scoring defense, as both squads allow just 9.0 goals per game.
SERIES HISTORY
- This will be the first time since 2019 that BU and Navy have faced off since April 26, 2019, when the Terriers fell to the Mids, 13-12, in Annapolis.
- The Terriers last hosted Navy on Feb. 24, 2018, a 10-8 Navy win.
- BU is 2-4 all-time against Navy, last winning on Feb. 25, 2017, when Jack Wilson beat the buzzer after a last-second clear by the Terriers.
- This will be the first time that BU has faced a Navy team coached by Joe Amplo, who is in his third season at the helm.
- Each of the last four games has been decided by two goals or fewer, including three one-goal contests.
SCOUTING THE MIDS
- Navy lost its conference opener at Lehigh, 11-7, on March 5, but has since rattled off three straight wins.
- That includes a 14-8 triumph against Holy Cross in Annapolis last weekend.
- Patrick Skalniak leads Navy in goals (21) and points (36) and is one of four Mids with at least 20 points.
- Nick Cole is second on the squad with 24 points thanks to a team-high 16 assists.
- Henry Tolker (17g, 6a) and Dane Swanson (12g, 11a) are tied for third with 23 points apiece.
- Nate Hammond (56-of-106) is facing off at 52.8% while Jacob Jarosz (47-of-90) has won 52.2% of his draws and has claimed a team-best 30 ground balls.
- Hammond was 9-of-12 against Holy Cross on Saturday while Jarosz was 4-of-10.
- Jackson Bonitz has recorded a team-high 14 caused turnovers.
- Pat Ryan has started all nine games in the cage for the Mids.
- He owns a .535 save percentage and is fifth in the NCAA with a 9.08 goals-against average.
