Hockey East Holds Annual Media Day; Women Picked Fifth in Preseason Poll

BOSTON - The Hockey East Association held its annual media day on Tuesday at Legends in TD Garden and unveiled its preseason coaches' polls. The Boston University women's team was picked to finish fifth in the league.
Head coach Brian Durocher was joined by senior captain Nadia Mattivi for the media day festivities. The Terriers, who finished sixth in the 2021-22 Hockey East standings, return 11 of their top 15 point-scorers from a year ago in addition to Hockey East All-Rookie Team honoree Callie Shanahan in goal.
Defending conference champion Northeastern was atop the poll with nine first-place votes and 90 points. Vermont was second with 79 points and a first-place vote while Boston College was right behind in third with 76 points. Providence edged BU for the fourth spot by two points, 61-59, and UConn came in sixth with 53. Maine (39), New Hampshire (38), Merrimack (26) and Holy Cross (19) rounded out the poll.
BU will host Moncton for an exhibition contest on Friday, Sept. 23, before officially opening their 18th season with non-conference home contests against Rensselaer (Oct. 7) and Union (Oct. 8).
