Women's Ice Hockey to Visit Holy Cross on Friday

BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team will close its season series with Holy Cross on Friday (Jan. 13) when it visits the Hart Center Rink for a 1 p.m. contest.

This will serve as a rubber match as the Terriers topped the Crusaders, 3-2, in overtime at Walter Brown Arena on Dec. 9 before Holy Cross won by the same score at Frozen Fenway on Jan. 6. Another Turnpike Trophy point is up for grabs on Friday as BU currently leads the year-long competition by a score of 5-2.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • The Terriers will look to get back on track after a pair of league losses last weekend.
  • Senior Julia Nearis ranks first on the Terriers in points (15) and goals (7) and junior Lacey Martin has 13 points, including a team-best nine assists.
  • Senior Nadia Mattivi has 10 points on four goals and six assists.
  • Junior Clare O'Leary scored her first goal of the season in the Fenway contest.
  • Graduate student Andrea Brändli was named HCA National Women's Goalie of the Year Watch List this week and ranks 13th in the nation in save percentage (.931).

HISTORY WITH THE CRUSADERS

  • BU is 9-2-0 all-time against the Crusaders, including a 4-1-0 record at Hart Center Rink.
  • The Terriers have allowed just one goal in six of their 11 meetings with the Crusaders.
  • BU won two of the three meetings last season with the Crusaders earning their first-ever win over the Terriers on Nov. 11, 2021.

SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS

  • Holy Cross snapped a 13-game losing streak with its Frozen Fenway win.
  • This is the Crusaders' first home game since Dec. 2.
  • Holy Cross has also posted wins against Vermont and Union.
  • Senior Mary Edmonds (5g, 4a) and junior Bryn Saarela (4g, 5a) share the team lead in points with nine each.
  • Junior Millie Sirum (2g, 6a) is right behind with eight points while senior Sofia Smithson has chipped in seven (3g, 4a).
  • Junior Madison Beck has been the team's primary goaltender this season and currently has a 2.67 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage.
