The Terriers erased two one-goal deficits before Poerio raced to the far post to one-time a pass from freshman Nicole Lauro to the back of the cage for her first goal of the season.
Senior Thalia Steenssens and sophomore Caroline O'Brien also scored for BU, which won its third straight game to improve to 6-5 on the season. UNH falls to 8-4 with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNH opened the scoring 12:02 into the contest when Tasmin Cookman pounced on a rebound near the right post and sent it in for her team-leading 12th goal of the season.
- The Terriers were able to equalize before the end of the opening quarter as Steenssens took a pass from senior Rachel Borzymowski and penetrated the top of the circle before drilling a shot inside the left post with just 7.5 seconds remaining on the clock.
- After a scoreless second quarter, the visitors regained the lead early in the third.
- With her back to the goal at the top of the circle, Kathelijne Knuttel slid a pass to an open Addison MacNeil on the left side and she lifted a shot to the top right corner of the goal at the 35:05 mark.
- BU was held without a shot in the third quarter and had just two shots in the fourth but scored on both to earn the victory.
- Off a restart in the 51st minute, senior Brooklyn Lamb dribbled down the right side that got through traffic and went off the stick of Poerio and right to O'Brien, who redirected it in at the goalmouth to make it a 2-2 contest.
- Lauro set up the game-winner by eluding defenders on a long run up the right side before widening the attack while Poerio sprinted towards the far post.
- Lauro sent a perfectly timed pass to Poerio who connected with the ball while in full momentum and found the back of the cage at 53:47 for her first goal since her freshman season.
- UNH pulled goaltender Jemma Woods in favor of an extra field player for the final 2:49 but the Terriers held on for the victory.
- The Terriers did not earn a corner and the Wildcats did not record a save.
- Senior Kate Thomason made three saves in goal for the Terriers to earn her sixth win of the season.
- UNH held a 9-6 shot advantage and earned all three of the game's corners, which all came in the first 28 minutes of the contest.
- BU has now won the first three games of a six-game homestand.
- BU will return to action on Sunday (Oct. 8) when its hosts Columbia.
- Game time is set for 1 p.m.
