Returning for a 15th year, the Terrier Twelve recognizes the top 12 achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Tuesday and Friday this summer as we count down this year's Terrier Twelve on GoTerriers.com.
Coming in at number five in this year's
Terrier 12 is the field hockey team, which claimed the Patriot League regular-season title and won four major conference awards.
BU rolled to a 5-1 Patriot League record including a 3-0 win over Holy Cross that pushed head coach
Sally Starr into elite company, as she became just the sixth field hockey coach in Division I history to reach 500 career victories.
In non-conference play, the Terriers posted wins over Providence, Saint Louis, crosstown rival Northeastern and No. 23 Maine. BU clinched its sixth PL regular-season title in the past eight years with a 2-1 win at Bucknell on Oct. 30.
Freshman
Martu Coulo scored the lone goal in a 1-0 PL semifinal victory over Bucknell before the Terriers were edged in overtime by Lehigh in the championship game.
Payton Anderson had a strong sophomore season, becoming the first underclassman in Patriot League history to win Defensive Player of the Year honors. Coulo earned PL Rookie of the Year honors, and for the sixth time in eight seasons, Starr was the PL Coach of the Year.
Senior
Rachel Borzymowski became the first player in program history to be named the PL Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year and she went on to receive BU's Woman of the Year Award.
Anderson was joined by junior
Thalia Steenssens on the All-Patriot League First Team while Coulo, Borzymowski, junior
Tess Csejka and senior
Caroline Kelly all received second-team accolades. Csejka had a breakthrough year with team highs of 21 points and 10 goals while Kelly finished fourth in the nation in save percentage.
Anderson, who tallied 20 points, including nine goals, was named to the NFHCA All-Region First Team along with Borzymowski while Steenssens collected second-team honors.
