Rosen's Brace Propels Men's Soccer to 2-1 Win over American
September 23, 2023 | Men's Soccer
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The unusual morning start time had little impact on senior Eitan Rosen, as he earned his second career brace in just over eight minutes of action to help lead the Boston University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over American at the George Washington University Soccer Field.
Extending their unbeaten streak to a season-high three games (2-0-1), the Terriers improve to 5-2-1 overall and have opened Patriot League play at 2-0-0 for the first time in six years. They also remained unbeaten through six contests (5-0-1) against the Eagles, who fell to 2-3-2 (0-1-1 PL).
The contest was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. but was moved up to 10:30 a.m. to avoid expected poor weather conditions created by Tropical Storm Ophelia. After Rosen struck twice, the Eagles cut the deficit in half during the 55th minute but were unable to net the equalizer.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rosen needed just 23 seconds to put BU ahead for good after intercepting a pass and firing a shot past the keeper, Matthew Tibbetts.
- Rosen doubled the lead at 8:11 with another low shot set up by graduate student Colin Innes.
- After helping BU clear a pair of corner kicks, Innes had a shot blocked at 25:23 and forced a save by Tibbetts in the 39th minute.
- Montali stepped up with a great save in the final seconds to help BU enter the half, 2-0.
- AU came out attacking with three shots and a pair of corners before Ethan Boyle found the back of the net at 54:53 by putting away a close range rebound.
- Montali would make his last save at 58:25 and would help BU successfully defend against three more corners.
- Sophomore Andrew Soczynski forced a save by Tibbetts at 84:35, as the Terriers held on for the victory.
- Rosen owns a team-tying three goals and a team-high seven points through eight games after tallying nine through his first 38 appearances as a Terrier. He recorded his other three goals and an assist in 2021.
- Rosen is the first Terrier to score multiple goals in a game this season. He last accomplished the feat against Colgate at home in 2021.
