Women’s Soccer to Play No. 21 Texas in NCAA Tournament First Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After capturing its fifth Patriot League title and 14th conference championship in program history on Sunday (Nov. 10), the Boston University women's soccer program will head to Austin, Texas to take on No. 21 University of Texas in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday (Nov. 15) at 7 p.m. ET, the NCAA announced on Monday afternoon.
BU is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018. Friday's match will mark the Terriers' 15th overall appearance in the Big Dance.
The Terriers own a 5-13-1 record in the NCAA Tournament since their first postseason match in 2000. BU has defeated Holy Cross (2000), UConn (2005 in overtime), Harvard (2011 and 2013) and St. John's (2015) in the NCAA Tournament in its history. In its last time in the postseason six years ago, BU played No. 19 LSU to a scoreless draw in Baton Rouge, La. before the Tigers advanced on penalty kicks, 2-1.
BU earned the Patriot League's automatic qualifier following a 1-1 draw to Bucknell in the championship match. The Terriers advanced in a 10-round penalty shootout, 8-7. Junior Morgan Weaver garnered Patriot League Tournament MVP honors, and joined graduate student Lily Matthews, senior Morgan Fagan, and junior Mackenzie Stickelman on the conference's All-Tournament Team.
Dating back to Oct. 5, the Terriers are riding an eight-game unbeaten streak (4-0-4). BU was the first Patriot League team since 2018 to not lose to a conference team on the year. Seven Terriers garnered All-Patriot League honors following the regular season: Fagan (second team and all-academic), Stickelman (second team), juniors Giulianna Gianino (first team and all-academic) Margy Porta (first team), and Helene Tyburczy (second team), senior Allison Hanlon (third team) and freshman Bridget Carr (third team).
Texas is the No. 4-seed in the top-left quadrant of the tournament bracket. The Longhorns captured their first SEC Tournament title following a 1-0 victory over No. 14 South Carolina. Texas went 16-3-2 on the year, entering Friday's tilt with seven wins in its last eight contests. Lexi Missimo paces the Longhorn attack with 12 goals and 11 assists.
