Kylie Strom Wins NWSL Championship with Orlando Pride

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A Boston University women's soccer alumna is a NWSL champion for the second time in program history, as Kylie Strom ('14) helped lead the Orlando Pride to a 1-0 victory over the Washington Spirit in the league's title game on Saturday (Nov. 23).
The NWSL championship featured two former Terriers on rosters, with Anna Heilferty on the Spirit sideline. Heilferty, who was the first Terrier to earn an NWSL title in 2021 after becoming the program's first NWSL draft pick earlier that year, did not play after sustaining an injury earlier in the season.
Strom, who suited up for BU from 2010-13, was an integral member of Orlando's back line in her fourth season with the team. Playing over 2,400 minutes across 28 matches, she led the Pride in total touches, passes received and total carries. In her final 19 matches of the year, including the postseason, her pass accuracy never dipped below 80 percent in a single game. She provided the assist on what would prove to be the go-ahead goal in Orlando's semifinal win over the Kansas City Current on Nov. 17.
The defender went on to earn a nomination for the NWSL's Defender of the Year after helping Orlando set program records for most shutouts and fewest goals conceded, which later went to teammate Emily Sams.
Strom played in 86 games for the Terriers en route to conference championships in 2010, 2011 and 2013. She ranks 14th in program history with 45 career points, finding the back of the net 14 times. Across her career, she earned NSCAA Scholar All-America, NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team, NSCAA All-Region, All-Patriot League, Patriot League All-Tournament Team and America East All-Rookie Team selections.
