Andrew Wike's seven saves and junior
Alex Bonnington's 39th-minute equalizer, the Boston University men's soccer team battled in-state rival Holy Cross to a 1-1 draw Tuesday night at the Smith Soccer Stadium.
By extending their unbeaten streak to seven games (3-0-4), the Terriers (4-3-10, 4-1-4 PL) claimed the top seed for the upcoming Patriot League tournament and repeated as conference regular season champions for the first time since 2010-11. The Crusaders (4-9-4, 3-3-3 PL) saw their season come to an end, as they lost a tiebreaker with Loyola Maryland for the No. 6 slot.
The six teams reaching the PL tournament are as follows: No. 1 Boston University (4-1-4 PL), No. 2 Bucknell (4-1-4 PL), No. 3 American (4-2-3 PL), No. 4 Colgate (4-3-2 PL), No. 5 Lehigh (3-4-1 PL) and No. 6 Loyola Maryland (3-3-3 PL). The Terriers owned the tiebreaker over the Bison by claiming a 1-0 win back on Oct. 12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders' Ethan Gill recorded the game's first shot on goal in the seventh minute with Wike earning a save.
- After both teams failed to convert on a corner kick, freshman Markus Ramsey ripped a shot from the top of the box to prompt a leaping save by Tristan Stephani.
- The Crusaders struck first at 29:41 when Gill sent a service ball into the box for Evan Jones to flick into the back of the net.
- BU though came back and tied the game at 38:11 when Bonnington headed in a point-blank rebound set up by classmate Ryan Lau's corner kick that bounced off the post and crossbar.
- Wike kept the game tied entering the locker room by stopping a shot from Gill at 41:40 and the ensuing corner kick.
- Both HC's Ivor Teagle and Bonnington forced a save within the first four minutes of the second half.
- Senior Daniel Kim tried to put away a BU corner in the 57th minute, but Stephani was in position for the save.
- After clearing two BU corners and pressuring the Terriers into a pair of shots that went wide, the Crusaders forced Wike to earn four saves between the 72nd and 83rd minutes.
- Sophomore Andrea Di Blasio attempted BU's final shot at 88:10 with the ball ending up left of the post.
GAME NOTES
- Bonnington became the 11th Terrier to score a goal this season and the 10th to record three or more points.

- Holy Cross finished with a 15-11 advantage in shots despite the Terriers more than doubling the Crusaders in corners, 8-3.
- BU moved to 15-5-2 all-time against the Crusaders.
- The Terriers' 10 ties, with nine of them ending in a 1-1 or 2-2 draw, are a new NCAA record. The lone scoreless tie came against then-No. 9 New Hampshire in the season opener.
