Caron, Lachance Earn Hockey East Weekly Awards
December 2, 2024 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMESBURY, Mass. - Sophomore Shane Lachance and senior Mathieu Caron of the Boston University men's ice hockey team each earned a Hockey East weekly award, the league announced on Monday.
Lachance was named Hockey East Co-Player of the Week while Caron was selected as Hockey East Goaltender of the Week. Both standouts were instrumental in the Terriers' two victories at the 2024 Friendship Four in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
With the Terriers trailing, 3-1, in the third period against Notre Dame in Saturday's title game, Lachance assisted on Gavin McCarthy's goal at the 7:00 mark before providing the primary helper on Ryan Greene's tying goal with 4:42 remaining. Just 20 seconds later, Lachance potted the game-winning goal for his second goal and fourth point of the tournament. Lachance was named the Friendship Four Player of the Tournament for his efforts in leading the Terriers to the Belpot title. A native of Andover, Massachusetts, Lachance leads the Terriers in points (17) and assists (10) and enters this weekend on a five-game point streak.
Caron made 59 saves across the Terriers' two victories in Belfast, including 28 in Saturday's triumph. He stopped all 14 shots he faced in the final frame to allow the Terriers to rally and backstopped a penalty kill that went 4-for-4 against the Fighting Irish. Caron also made 31 saves, including stops on the final 15 shots he faced, in a 6-2 win over Merrimack on Friday to help BU claim a crucial three points in the league standings. He has now won three straight games and has improved to 7-4-1 on the season.
