COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - Freshmen Cole Eiserman, Cole Hutson and Brandon Svoboda of the Boston University men's ice hockey team were named to the preliminary roster for the 2025 U.S. National Junior Team, USA Hockey announced on Monday.
The three standouts will join 25 other hopefuls at a training camp at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich., from Dec. 16-17. Players are auditioning for a spot on the final 25-player roster that will represent the United States in the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will be held Dec. 26, 2024 – Jan. 5, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario.
Eiserman, the Hockey East Rookie of the Month for October, leads all NCAA rookies with nine goals, a number that has him tied for seventh among all NCAA skaters. Eiserman is also seventh among the nation's freshmen with 13 points. He was just the second Terrier since at least 2002-03 to score four goals in his first three collegiate games. Eiserman has scored multiple goals on two separate occasions, including on Nov. 22 against Merrimack when he tied the game in the third period before breaking that deadlock himself in a 6-3 victory.
Hutson leads all freshmen defensemen in both points (10) and assists (8) this season. He has earned a point in nine of his first 14 games as a Terrier, including a two-assist effort this past Friday against Merrimack in the Friendship Four. What's even more impressive is that all eight of Hutson's assist have been the primary assist. Hutson has blocked 11 shots this season in addition to his dynamic play in the offensive end.
Svoboda has battled injury to score three goals in nine games this season. That includes an electric two-goal performance against Merrimack on Nov. 22. He also lit the lamp in a 4-2 win over UConn on Oct. 18. Svoboda impressed at the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase, as he led all Americans in points (5) and assists (4) at that event.
The final U.S. roster is expected to be announced by Dec. 24. Team USA has medaled in seven of the last nine IIHF World Junior Championships, with Lane Hutson and the Americans earning gold last year.
