December 30, 2024 | Women's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Boston University women's basketball program swept both Patriot League weekly awards for the week of Dec. 30 with senior Alex Giannaros and freshman Channing Warren earning Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Giannaros is the first Terrier to garner Patriot League Player of the Week recognition this season. It is Giannaros' first career Player of the Week honor, with her selection the 15th for a Terrier since joining the conference ahead of the 2013-14 campaign. Giannaros' last weekly award came as a freshman on Jan. 3, 2022.
Warren also picks up her first career Patriot League weekly award. She is the second Terrier to win the honor, joining classmate Allison Schwertner's three selections. BU continues to pace the Patriot League in Rookie of the Week accolades.
In BU's 77-56 win over Yale on Dec. 29, Giannaros dropped a team best 23 points. She made her first seven shots and was a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range. For her efforts, she moved into fifth place in program history for career threes and 18th place in scoring.
On the season, Giannaros is averaging 14.7 points per game to rank fourth in the Patriot League. She has reached the 20-point plateau four times this season while shooting over 41 percent from the field.
Warren set multiple personal bests in the win over the Bulldogs, dropping 15 points in 15 minutes on seven baskets with six rebounds and two steals. Prior to the contest, Warren had scored five points while making two shots from the field.
BU ignites Patriot League play on Thursday (Jan. 2), hosting Lafayette at Case Gym. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
