Women's Tennis Tops Lynn, 4-3

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Continuing its Florida trip, the Boston University women's tennis team posted a 4-3 victory at Lynn on Friday afternoon.
After winning the doubles point by a combined score of 12-4, BU (8-6) went on to capture three singles points, including a pair in three-set thrillers, against the Fighting Knights (10-2). Lynn entered the contest ranked No. 8 nationally in the ITA's NCAA Division II team rankings.
Senior Victoria Carlsten, senior Kaitlin Tan and sophomore Emily Zhao all went 2-0 on the day to lead the Terriers.
In doubles play, Tan and Zhao teamed together at line 2 for a 6-2 victory. Carlsten and junior Nina Gulbransen duplicated their efforts in the No. 3 slot to help BU earn the early 1-0 lead.
The Fighting Knights quickly picked up a point when the NCAA DII's top-ranked Salma Djoubri won her first set and then the match with a retirement early in the second. Lynn also added a straight-sets victory on court 3 with a 6-0, 6-2 decision.
Carlsten though kept Lynn at bay, as she claimed a 7-5, 6-2, victory at line 2 against NCAA DII's No. 65 Deniza Marcinkevica. Zhao added another singles point with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory on court 5.
Freshman Ellie Gyuro tried to clinch the match rallying from a set down but ultimately came up just one break short in a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, defeat in the No. 6 slot. Tan clinched the team victory at line 4 in a hard-fought 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-3 victory.
The Terriers will play one last match in the Sunshine State when they visit No. 63 FAU on Sunday. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
