No. 14 Terriers, No. 15 Huskies to Meet for Beanpot Title Game at TD Garden (NESN, ESPN+, TSN+)

BOSTON – The No. 14 Boston University women's ice hockey team (14-7-1, 11-4-1 HE) is prepped to face No. 15 Northeastern (14-8-1, 10-4-0 HE) in the 46th Dunkin' Women's Beanpot championship game on Tuesday (Jan. 21) at TD Garden. Puck drop in the rematch of the 2024 Beanpot title game is set for 7:30 p.m.
 
Northeastern is the defending Beanpot champion while BU is looking for its first Beanpot title since 2019. This is the second year in a row that the women's championship game is being played at TD Garden, with 10,633 fans in attendance last year. It marked the largest crowd to ever watch a women's hockey game in New England.

BEANPOT NOTES
  • BU has won two Beanpot championships - one in 2019 and another in 1981 as a club team.
  • The Terriers have reached the title game nine previous times, most recently in 2024 when Northeastern and BU went to overtime where the Huskies scored 27 seconds in to win the title in a 2-1 decision.
  • The Terriers are 11-19-6 in Beanpot games since becoming a varsity program in 2005 and 19-57-6 dating back to the start of the tournament in 1979.
  • The Terriers and Huskies have met in the Beanpot 13 times since BU became a varsity program and BU is 4-6-3 in those games.
 
SEMIFINALS RECAP
  • BU played Harvard in the Beanpot semifinal round at Matthews Arena and earned a 2-1 overtime win to advance to the title game.
  • Junior Sydney Healey scored with 55 seconds left in the third period while graduate student Lindsay Bochna scored the game winner in overtime.
  • Graduate student Julia Shaunessy logged two assists in the game and junior Riley Walsh tallied one.
  • This marked BU's first overtime win at a neutral site since March 4, 2012, when BU defeated Providence in the Hockey East Championship 2-1 in double overtime.

  • BU is No. 14 in the USA Hockey poll and is receiving votes in the USCHO poll headed into the Beanpot.
  • Thirteen Terriers have scored this season with six having at least five goals.
  • BU owns the most shorthanded goals in Hockey East with three and is first in the league in power play goals with 13.
  • The Terriers are third in the NCAA and second in Hockey East in penalty killing percentage (0.891).
  • Shaunessy was named the Hockey East defender of the week after recording two points against Harvard.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
  • Northeastern is 14-8-1 overall with a 10-6-1 record in Hockey East play.
  • The Huskies most recently dropped two games against Providence, losing 5-1 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday.
  • Sophomore Mattie Robitzer was in between the posts for Friday's game while freshman Lisa Jönsson played Saturday.
  • Northeastern's most recent win came over No. 12 Boston College in the Beanpot semifinals, 4-2.
  • Northeastern is 4-2-0 against ranked opponents this season.
  • The losses to Providence marked the first time the Huskies have lost back-to-back games this season.
