Barnes Named Inside Lacrosse All-American
May 14, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
BALTIMORE - Senior goalkeeper Will Barnes of the Boston University men's lacrosse team was named an Inside Lacrosse All-American, the publication announced on Wednesday.
This is the second postseason accolade for Barnes, who joined senior Trey Brown and freshman Timothy Shannehan as a USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American last week. Barnes was an honorable mention selection by both outlets.
Barnes was sensational all season for BU as he helped lead the Terriers to their second straight appearance in the Patriot League title game. A two-time Second Team All-Patriot League selection, Barnes entered the NCAA Tournament ranked seventh in the nation with a .575 save percentage, which is second-best in program history behind All-American Christian Carson-Banister's mark of .586 in 2017. Barnes' save percentage number would be even higher if he did not play out of the cage on 10-man ride. However, Barnes was an important reason why BU boasted third-best ride in the country, as the Terriers held opponents to a .747 clear percentage in 2025.
A native of South Riding, Virginia, Barnes ended the regular season ranked sixth in the country with a .598 save percentage and eighth in the NCAA with an 8.76 goals-against average. He was a five-time PL Goalkeeper of the Week, which matched the single-season Patriot League record. Barnes was instrumental in the Terriers earning the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, turning in several key performances during league play. He made a career-best 23 saves in a 12-7 triumph over Lehigh on April 19 and made what was then a career-high 22 saves, including a fantastic stop in overtime, in the Terriers' 10-9 win at then-No. 2/3 Army West Point on March 22 . Barnes also shut out Holy Cross during his entire 45 minutes of work on March 29 thanks to 10 saves, one of his 12 efforts of 10 or more saves. Barnes also gave up fewer than 10 even-strength goals in 12 of his 16 starts.
Barnes is the third Terrier goalkeeper to receive All-America honors, joining Carson-Banister (2017) and Matt Garber (2022). He is the 11th different Terrier to be named an All-American and BU standouts have now combined for 25 All-America selections by either Inside Lacrosse or the USILA. BU has boasted at least one All-American in each of the last four years and in eight of the last nine seasons.
