LUBBOCK, Texas – The Boston University women's tennis team (13-9) concluded its season with a 4-0 loss to 11th-seeded No. 12 Texas Tech on Friday. The Terriers put up a tough battle through singles and doubles but ultimately came up short, bringing their season to an end.
In doubles, the Terriers fought hard across all three courts, with multiple games going to a deuce. Senior
Nina Gulbransen and junior
Emily Zhao were the only pair to take a lead in their match, going up 2-0 before Texas Tech responded. BU held a 3-1 lead at one point before the Red Raiders took a 4-3 lead and the match went unfinished. Texas Tech ultimately claimed the doubles point with wins at the top two spots.
The lone Terrier to win a singles set was freshman
Gabriella Mikaul. The Patriot League rookie of the year posted a 6-3 first set win, marking just the sixth time in BU history that a Terrier has won a set in NCAA singles play. Sophomore
Uma Bakaityte was up 5-4 in her second set before the match went unfinished.
Texas Tech claimed wins at the Nos. 5, 3 and 6 spots, respectively, to defeat the Terriers 4-0 and advance in the NCAA tournament.
