HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU made five of its first eight shots of the game to build a 12-6 lead in the opening five minutes. Monteagudo and junior Aoibhe Gormley each made threes while Semenova sank two layups.
- McLaughlin's and-1 layup pushed BU in front, 14-9, with 2:58 left in the first, but the Greyhounds scored on their next possession to jumpstart a 9-0 that Therien capped with five points to give Loyola Maryland an 18-14 lead 2:11 into the second quarter.
- Trailing 22-17 with under four minutes until halftime, the Terriers made their final trio of three-pointers in the first half from McLaughlin, Monteagudo and sophomore Rose Azmoudeh to enter halftime ahead 26-25.
- BU ignited the third quarter with three more triples on as many possessions on baskets from Monteagudo, sophomore Hildur Gunnsteinsdóttir and Semenova to extend the lead to 35-27, the Terriers' largest of the game.
- However, the Greyhounds regained the lead on a 9-0 run as Syndey Bass and Olivia Shaughnessy bookended the spurt with three-pointers.
- McLaughlin's left corner triple on a second chance helped BU establish a 42-41 lead entering the final frame.
- Kailey Kalet opened the fourth quarter with a three that put Loyola up 44-42. Therien also drained two shots to widen the gap to 50-42 with 6:17 remaining, the Greyhounds' biggest lead in the contest.
- McLaughlin pulled up from the foul line to nail a jumper with 3:24 left for BU's first field goal in the quarter, but Amorich countered with her own jumper on the elbow to replenish the seven-point lead on the next possession, 52-45.
- Down by seven with under 90 seconds to go, senior Anete Adler found Gormley outside the arc for a three-pointer to pull BU within 54-50. Semenova knocked down a hook shot in the high paint with 19.1 seconds left to make it a one-possession game.
- On Loyola's inbound, Therien got free to hit a layup while drawing the foul. She missed the free throw, however, and Monteagudo drilled a left-wing triple with 4.5 seconds on the clock.
- Shaughnessy missed two Greyhound foul shots, but the rebound on the second attempt went out of play off Loyola with 1.1 seconds on the clock. BU inbounded the ball, but the insert was deflected with a shot going off to end the game.
- BU shot over 51 percent from the field while hitting 11 of its 23 three-point chances for nearly 49 percent.
