HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams made seven of the game's first 10 shots in the opening 3:07. Gunnsteinsdóttir canned a pair of three-pointers while Adamski netted five points to supply an early 10-8 Lafayette lead.
- With 2:56 on the clock in the first quarter, junior Bella McLaughlin found classmate Inés Monteagudo Pardo for a three. McLaughlin dished out another assist to Adler for a layup in the frame's final seconds to stake BU to a 17-14 edge.
- That basket ignited a 12-2 Terrier run over the next 3:16. Back-to-back layups from Semenova extended the lead to 27-16.
- BU replenished its double-digit lead twice on threes from Gunnsteinsdóttir and sophomore Rose Azmoudeh, only for Lafayette to counter with their own triples on the next possessions. Azmoudeh and Adamski traded threes in the second quarter's last 1:11 to put BU on top at halftime, 38-33.
- Adler stuck a turnaround floater to open the third quarter, but the Leopards rattled off seven straight points after to knot the contest at 40-40 just 1:51 into the stanza.
- Junior Sisi Bentley converted a second-chance layup and Monteagudo drilled a straightaway triple, but Kiewiet and Talia Zurinskas combined for a 9-0 Lafayette spurt to push the visitors in front, 49-45.
- Each side made only one basket in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, but Adamski nailed her fifth three-pointer on the day with 6:05 remaining to make it 58-51.
- Semenova converted a nostalgic three-point play, but Zurinskas responded with a right-corner triple. Monteagudo buried another straightaway three on the next play before Adler flushed a layup following Lafayette's shot clock violation to cut the gap to 61-59 with 2:40 left.
- Sauda Ntaconayigize found Kiewiet for a three with 1:22 on the timer to extend Lafayette's lead to 64-59. Adler made a right-block layup on BU's next possession, then the senior found Semenova under the hoop for a layup that sliced the deficit to one, 64-63, with 26 seconds left.
- Adamski went 1-for-2 from the foul line with 19.4 seconds to go. Trailing 65-63, Gunnsteinsdóttir was fouled on a three-point attempt with one second left. She missed the first free throw before hitting the second. The final shot bounced off back iron and BU could not corral the loose ball.
- The Terriers made over 46 percent of their shots while shooting 9-for-18 from distance, including 70 percent from three in the first half.
- Lafayette drained 10 triples and made nearly 45 percent of its shots.
- Rebounds favored the Terriers, 39-25.
- BU also assisted on 20 of its 25 baskets. Junior Aoibhe Gormley led the Terriers with six to just one turnover.
- The Terriers sported advantages in paint points (32-18), second-chance points (18-5) and bench points (28-0).
- Since Dec. 20, a span of four games, Adler is averaging 16.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists on nearly 56 percent shooting.
- Semenova recorded a season-high 13 points. She has scored 34 points in her last two contests against Lafayette.
- Gunnsteinsdóttir set a personal best with four three-pointers, boosting her shooting from beyond the arc to 40 percent this season.
- As of writing, Monteagudo improved to second in the Patriot League with a .426 three-point percentage.
- BU remains ahead in the all-time series, 22-13, though the Leopards have won three straight in the rivalry for the first time in seven years.
- The Terriers travel to Army West Point to start a two-game road swing on Saturday (Jan. 10). Opening tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.
