Terriers Fall to Northeastern, 3-1

BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (9-18-3, 7-12-2 HE) dropped a 5-2 result to No. 5 Northeastern (24-6-1, 19-1-1 HE) on Friday evening at Walter Brown Arena.
Northeastern took a 2-0 lead in the first frame before BU responded early in the second to cut into the Huskies' lead. The Huskies tacked on another goal before the conclusion of the middle stanza and scored their fourth in the last frame to take a 4-1 lead. BU scored its second goal shortly thereafter, but the Huskies would add an empty net goal to win in a 5-2 outcome.
Senior Clara Yuhn opened the scoring for the Terriers with an unassisted goal. Junior Neely Nicholson scored the second goal for BU and was assisted by sophomore Tessa Demain and senior Sydney Healey. Junior Mari Pietersen made 26 saves in between the posts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- At 7:15 in the first, BU went to the box for tripping.
- With nine seconds left on the Northeastern power play, it was called for holding.
- Both penalties cleared without a change in score.
- Fifty seconds after the BU power play expired, Northeastern took the puck up the length of the ice and scored at the 11:57 mark to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Terriers served a holding penalty with 4:20 to go in the first and successfully killed the penalty.
- Northeastern took a 2-0 lead just 29 seconds before the close of the period.
- Just under four minutes into the second frame, Yuhn intercepted a Northeastern pass and scored off a shot from the top of the circle to cut into the Huskies' lead, 2-1.
- Northeastern went to the box for tripping with 14:12 on the clock but kept the Terriers from scoring on the power play.
- The Huskies went up 3-1 at the 16:41 mark after the puck bounced into the net.
- With 12:01 to go in the third, BU went to the box for hooking and successfully killed the penalty.
- Northeastern then extended its lead to 4-1 at 13:31.
- The Terriers were called for hooking as the goal was scored and no power play was served.
- A little over 20 seconds later, BU responded when passes from Demain and S. Healey found Nicholson, who scored BU's second goal of the day.
- BU pulled Pietersen from the posts with 1:52 to play and Northeastern scored on the empty net with 0.7 seconds left in the game to defeat the Terriers, 5-2.
GAME NOTES
- Northeastern outshot BU, 31 to 22.
- BU was 0-for-2 on the power play while Northeastern was 0-for-3.
- BU blocked nine shots while Northeastern blocked 11.
- Northeastern won 31 faceoffs while BU won 18.
