Terriers Open Patriot League Play With 4-3 Win Over Colgate

WEYMOUTH, Mass. — The Boston University men's tennis team claimed a 4-3 victory over the Colgate Raiders on Saturday night at the Weymouth Club.
Clinching the match for the Terriers (5-8, 1-0 PL) was freshman David Asenov, who won 7-5, 7-6 (6) at first singles, claimed the second-set tiebreak to give BU its fourth match win.
Junior Adrian Quiros and sophomore Ege Topkoc kicked off the match with a doubles win over their opponents from Colgate at the third flight. Colgate responded with a 6-4 win at second doubles and in the rubber match at first singles, Asenov and sophomore Payton Jim-On went to a tiebreak but lost, 6-7 (6).
BU won the first three singles matches and had a 3-1 lead. Sophomore Andrew Andea cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at fourth singles, then Jim-On won, 6-2, 6-1, at second singles. Quiros earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at third singles as well. The Raiders took the next two matches, but then Asenov's clinching match went final and delivered BU's first Patriot League win of the year.
Next up, the Terriers will travel to George Mason on Saturday, March 21 for a 2 p.m. match.
