A four-year member of the interclass teams in eight sports,
Marion Stallwood ranks among the University's finest student-athletes
of her era.
Although all competition during this time period was confined
to within the University, individuals gained recognition for
their athletic excellence by earning a position on the class
teams. Stallwood was selected to the interclass teams in volleyball,
basketball, fistball, speedball, field hockey, lacrosse, softball
and soccer.
At the same time, she was a member of the club team "The
Antiques," which competed in basketball and lacrosse
in the Boston Park League.
Due to her numerous accomplishments in athletics, combined
with a similar degree of proficiency in the classroom, Stallwood
was asked to serve on the College Athletic Association Advisory
Board.
Following graduation, she remained actively involved in athletics
in each the administrative and educational levels. As a physical
education teacher at Hingham High School, Stallwood additionally
served as the school's head coach of girl's field hockey,
basketball, softball and tennis.
She later accepted a position at Russell Sage College in
Troy, NY, where she eventually became the Chairman of the
Physical Education Department. In this post, she initiated
the school's first competitive intercollegiate sports program,
and was later inducted into the Russell Sage Collefe Athletic
Hall of Fame.
Throughout her career, she has served on a number of regional
and national governing boards. She was the regional representative
for the National Section of Women's Athletics, and was the
Chairman of the Basketball Board of Officials in Rhode Island,
Southeastern Massachusetts, and portions of New York.
