The 90th Season...
The Boston University men's basketball team completed its 90th season of varsity competition with a final 9-18 record... The Terriers, who finished 5-13 in the league-play, lost to Towson, 71-58, in the first round of the America East Championships... It was just the first non-winning season since 1995, and just the second time the squad has not reached double figures in victories in the 1990s.
Folk Earns Third Team All-Conference Honors...
Senior point guard LeVar Folk earned a spot on the America East All-Conference Third Team... Folk, who led the Terriers in scoring (12.7 ppg), assists (131, 5.1 apg), and steals (57, 2.3 spg), avraged 3.8 rebounds and finished third on the team with 42 three-point field goals.
Franklin Earn All-Rookie Recognition...
Freshman guard Dereck Franklin (7.4 ppg, 2.6 rpg) earned America East All-Rookie Team accolades... A four-time Rookie of the Week honoree in 1998-99, Franklin was one of just seven players in the 20-year history of the America East Conference, including former B.U. star Tunji Awojobi '97, to capture the award four or more times in a season.
Folk Is B.U.'s Career Steals Leader...
With 200 steals, LeVar Folk ended his collegiate career as B.U.'s all-time leader... Folk had a team-high 57 thefts in 1998-99... In fact, Folk became the first B.U. men's basketball player to record 1,000 points, 500 assists, and 200 steals in a career.
More Folk and Career Statistics...
With 519 assists, LeVar Folk ranks third on the B.U. career list... Jeff Timberlake '89 is the career leader (778) and Shawn Teague '85 is second (681)... With 1,192 points, Folk is 10th on the B.U. career scoring list... In addition, Folk has connected on 157 three-point field goals, third all-time.
Good Things Happen With LeVar Folk...
LeVar Folk dished out seven or more assists in a game 26 times during his collegiate career... The Terriers were 20-6 in those games, including a 5-3 mark in 1998-99.
Double Doubles...
Walter Brown had a team-high five double doubles in 1998-99, and 17 in just 56 career games as a Terrier.... LeVar Folk, who had four point-assist double doubles in 1997-98, was the only other Terrier with a double double in his collegiate career.
Different Leaders...
In the Terriers' nine wins in 1998-99, there were six different players who held (or shared) game-scoring honors... LeVar Folk had a team-high four team-best scoring efforts in Terrier wins, including a season-high 26 points in a 63-52 victory at New Hampshire on February 4.
Under 70 Points...
In Dennis Wolff's five seasons, B.U. is 74-22 when holding opponents under 70 points... In 1998-99, B.U. was 9-5 when holding opponents under 70 points, 8-1 when allowing under 60.
Three-Pointers, Three-Pointers, Three-Pointers...
B.U. hit a school-record 14 three-point field goals on January 12 vs. New Hampshire, eclipsing the previous record of 12, set on January 13, 1994 vs. Hartford... Billy Beal tied a B.U. single-game record with seven three-point field goals (on his way to a game-high 23 points) against UNH..
Terriers on Career Three-Point List...
Three Terriers are ranked among the career leaders in three-point field goals... Billy Beal (163) is second on B.U.'s career three-point list, while LeVar Folk (157) is third and Mike Costello (138) is fourth... Mark Daly '92 is the leader with 202.
Three-Point Field Goal Streak at 93...
B.U. has a 93-game three-point field goal streak... The last time the Terriers were held scoreless from beyond the three-point arc was Feb. 10, 1996, when they were 0-for-10 in a 75-72 loss at Vermont... B.U. has hit three-pointers in 145-of-147 games in the Dennis Wolff-era.
Avebe Steps Up...
Junior forward Jean Avebe posted career high averages in both points (7.5 ppg) and rebounds (4.9 rpg) in 1998-99... Avebe appeared in all 27 games, starting 14, and shot a team-high .538 (85-of-158) from the field... He had eight double-figure scoring outings, including career-high 19-point effort vs. Northeastern on February 10.
Terrier Dog Bites...
- B.U. lost 13 conference games for the first time in the 18 years that America East has kept regular-season standings... It is also just the fourth time in 18 years that the Terriers finished with a losing conference mark.
- Under head coach Dennis Wolff, the Terriers are 26-15 (.634 pct.) in the month of February.
- The Terriers held opponents under .400 shooting from the field 10 times in 1998-99... B.U. was 8-2 in those games.
- B.U. was 9-3 in games in 1998-99 when leading at halftime.

Head coach Dennis Wolff is in his fifth season at Boston University and sports an 86-61 record (.589 pct.)... During his tenure at B.U., Wolff's teams have captured two America East regular-season championships, and earned one NCAA Tournament berth (1997)... Wolff was hired on April 5, 1994 after serving 12 years as a Division I assistant at Virginia (1990-94), Southern Methodist (1989-90), Wake Forest (1985-1989), and St. Bonaventure (1982-84)... Wolff also served as the head coach of Division III Connecticut College, recording a 30-18 record in two seasons... Dennis Wolff announced that two players - point guard John Sadusky (6-1, 185) and guard/forward Paul Seymour (6-6, 195) - have signed national letters of intent during the early signing period that ran from November 11 to November 18... A native of Fairfax, VA, Sadusky plays for DeMatha H.S. in Hyattsville, MD... Last season, Sadusky averaged seven points and a team-high six assists a game for a 31-1 team... A native of Liverpool, NY, Seymour averaged 20.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists at Liverpool H.S. in 1997-98... The spring signing period is April 15 to May 15.
