2009 America East Coach of the Year
Liz Robertshaw completed her 12th season as the head coach of the Boston University lacrosse team for the 2018 season. Robertshaw has been a driving force behind the emergence of the Terriers onto the national scene and has led BU to 10 conference tournaments and won the America East title in her first four seasons.
A 19-year coaching veteran at the Division I level, Robertshaw served as the Terriers' top assistant for three seasons and was elevated to associate head coach before being named head coach on Sept. 1, 2006.
Robertshaw posted a 129-92 overall record leading the Terriers and a 61-24 mark in conference play. She has led her team to winning seasons in nine of the 12 years she has been at the helm. She has also guided the Terriers to perfect seasons in conference play on three occasions (2008, 2009 and 2012).
During her tenure as head coach, 33 Terriers were named to all-conference teams, 16 were all-region honorees, five were selected to All-America teams, and four players competed for the U.S. National Team, including World Cup gold medalist Danielle Etrasco. The program claimed four America East championships, four trips to the NCAA tournament and an appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals in 2008. In addition to coaching the Terriers, Robertshaw has served as an assistant coach the U.S. National Team since 2010 and has won two World Cup gold medals.
Under Robertshaw's watch, the Terriers made their fifth-straight Patriot League Tournament appearance in 2018. Kailey Conry and Tonianne Magnelli were each named to the IWLCA All-Region Second Team as well as the All-Patriot League First Team, while Kaitlin Belval and Maria Guerra earned spots on the Second Team.
In 2017, Robertshaw guided Caroline Meegan to earn Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors, becoming the first Terrier to earn a Patriot League major award. Additionally, Kailey Conry and Janelle Macone were named to the All-Patriot League Second Team.
Five Terriers were recognized on the All-Patriot League teams in 2016 as BU returned to the Patriot League Tournament semifinals. Jill Horka set the program draw control record with 236 in addition to setting the single-season record with 91.
BU the No. 4 seed in the 2015 Patriot League Tournament, which enabled them to host a quarterfinal game for the second straight year. The Terriers defeated Lehigh for the second straight year to advance to the semifinal round against No. 1 seed Loyola Maryland.
During the Terriers first season in the Patriot League, Robertshaw guided BU to a No. 3 seed in the six-team tournament and led her squad to the Patriot League title game against No. 1 Loyola Maryland after a thrilling come-from-behind victory over second-seeded Navy in the semifinals.
In 2010, the Terriers secured a 5-1 record in America East regular-season play and won their sixth straight America East championship, advancing to the NCAA tournament for the eighth time since 2000.
In addition to receiving America East Coach of the Year honors in 2009, Robertshaw was tabbed to coach the North team in the annual IWLCA/Under Armour Division I North-South Senior All-Star Game. In August 2009, Robertshaw was named an assistant coach for the U.S. Women's National Elite Lacrosse Team and worked with the squad through the 2013 and 2017 World Cup, guiding Team USA to FIL World Cup gold medals.
Prior to arriving at Boston University, Robertshaw served as an assistant coach at Brown University from 2000-03, working with the Bears' defensive unit and goalkeepers. Before Brown, Robertshaw began her coaching career at her alma mater, George Mason University, working as an assistant coach from 1998-1999.
Robertshaw earned USWLA All-American recognition in both her junior and senior seasons and STX/IWLCA All-American recognition in her senior year, becoming the first George Mason women's lacrosse player to earn All-America distinction. During her career, Robertshaw was a two-time captain and totaled a record 90 caused turnovers. Robertshaw was also a four-time all-conference selection and was awarded the Aimee Willard Award as the best collegiate player at the US Lacrosse National Tournament in 1998.
Robertshaw received a bachelor's degree in English from George Mason in 1998.
