Sandra Deacon Carr, a master lecturer in the Department of Management and Organization in the Questrom School of Business, was appointed the faculty athletics representative (FAR) for Boston University at the start of the 2021-22 school year.

For three decades, Deacon Carr has taught courses at BU in organizational behavior, leadership, management, career development, and team learning. She also serves as the faculty director of the BU Cross-College Challenge (XCC), the signature experience of the BU Hub.

The FAR role is recognized as the representative of Boston University and its faculty in the relationship between the NCAA, the Patriot League and the BU campus.

“We could not be more pleased to introduce Sandi Deacon Carr as our new faculty athletics representative,” said director of athletics Marrochello. “In our devotion to being an integral part of the campus community we have the honor of working with esteemed members of the faculty here, and we have truly enjoyed building a strong relationship with Sandi over the past several years. Her dedication to BU and its students is simply remarkable, and we are thrilled to welcome her into this key role”

In her XCC responsibilities, Deacon Carr oversees the development, implementation, and assessment of the XCC, drives faculty and student recruitment, and leads the development of strategic partnerships. She is also the faculty director of Questrom Team Learning Services, where she works with both faculty and students on a variety of team-related issues.

In a commitment to supporting and developing student-athletes over the years, Deacon Carr has helped student-athletes plan their course schedules to maximize their participation in classes in addition to co-creating the leadership development curriculum for the Bloom Family Leadership Academy. She also served as a faculty-in-residence of the BFLA during its inaugural year.

“I am honored to be appointed to the FAR role and I would like to thank Drew Marrochello and the Department of Athletics for this opportunity,” said Deacon Carr. “I have immense respect for the commitment that our student-athletes make, and as a parent of collegiate athletes myself, I am well aware of the many challenges that they face. Guidance and support from the faculty are essential in order for them to excel in both their academics and athletic endeavors, and I look forward to playing a larger role in their journeys.”

Deacon Carr currently serves on the Questrom Committee for Diversity Equity and Inclusion, and is the chair of the Task Force for Inclusive Teams.

Over the past decade, Deacon Carr has been recognized three times by Questrom in recognition of her commitment serving the student community.
