Former Boston University women’s tennis standout Heidi Steiber ('95) is the second female inducted into the Hall of Fame solely for her efforts on the BU tennis courts, after Terrier women’s tennis head coach Lesley Sheehan was inducted in 1990.

Steiber’s class, which includes Alison Caito (field hockey), Francis Okaroh (men’s soccer) and Chris Studer (wrestling) brought the Hall of Fame membership to 221.

Throughout her collegiate career, Steiber played No. 1 in both singles and doubles for the Terriers. She was a First-Team All-Conference selection all four years and compiled an overall singles record of 53-39 and a doubles mark of 48-28.

She began to make her mark as a freshman in 1991-92 when she won the top-flight singles bracket at the conference tournament. The following year she repeated as the No. 1 singles champion at the conference tournament while earning a ranking of 16th in the East in singles and 12th in doubles.

Steiber capped off her highly successful career in 1994-95 when she posted a 19-4 record in singles and 12-8 in doubles. She ranked in the Top 10 in the East in both singles and doubles.

As a team, the Terriers benefited greatly from Steiber’s success in 1994-95, as they compiled an overall record of 12-2, including a 6-0 mark in the spring season. The team was ranked 40th in the country, the highest ranking ever for the women’s tennis team and was fourth out of 94 teams in the East region.
