From walk-on to being a main cog in back-to-back national championship women's crews to being inducted into the Hall of Fame. That has been the road traveled by Melissa Hall.
Prior to arriving at BU in the fall of 1988, she had never rowed before. Soon, though, she found her way to the boathouse and began to learn as much as she could about what it took to be a successful coxswain.
The results were evident by the fall of 1990, as she had developed into a premier coxswain. The Terriers won the Head of the Charles, the Head of the Schuylkill, and the Head of the Hudson during that season.
Despite this impressive showing, not much was expected of the Terriers during the spring season of 1991. However, with Rosanna Zegarra, Sarah Baker, Portia Strong, Michelle Bradshaw, Carrell Gridley, Debbie Meyn-Prose, Lynn Kirstein, and Sue Rawcliffe rowing and Melissa serving as coxswain, the women rolled through an undefeated season culminated in the national championship.
They came back the following year to repeat as national champs with Sue Charles, Kelly Musick, Tina Farbaniec, Amy Turner, and Sara Field joining Strong, Gridley, Baker and Melissa.
