BOSTON, Mass. -Princeton University freshman midfielder Illvy Friebe (Bonn, Germany) scored three goals to lead the Tigers past Boston University, 4-2, at a sun-drenched Nickerson Field.
Friebe got the Tigers on the board with her first goal at 27:31, then added her second tally of the afternoon three and half minutes later to stake Princeton to an early 2-0 lead.
That 2-0 advantage would hold until the second half when Boston University sophomore Rachael Stillings (Escondido, CA) connected off a penalty corner from senior co-captain Tina McDavitt (Walpole, MA) at 31:54.
Princeton answered Stillings score with a goal from junior forward Melanie Meerschwem (Amstelveen, Netherlands) at 30:57 from Bridget Marchesi (Spring Lake, NJ) and Hilary Matson (Marathon, NY). Friebe finalized the outcome with her third goal of the day at 5:01 to make the score 4-2.
The Terriers fall to 15-3, while Princeton improves to 7-5 this season.
Princeton goalie Kelly Boril had 11 saves, while B.U. goalie, senior Noreen Flanagan (Red Bank, NJ) stopped 2 Tiger shots in the first half and sophomore Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, NH) recorded 4 saves in the second half. The Terriers outshot the Tigers, 18-11 and held the advantage in penalty corner situations, 12-5. B.U. falls to 1-5 all-time against Princeton. Sally Starr's team will travel to No. 1 Connecticut on Wednesday, October 27 to play the Huskies at 3 p.m., before hosting No. 6 in their regular season finale on Saturday, October 30 at 6 p.m.
GAME NOTES: The home loss for B.U. was their first in 10 games. The last time B.U. lost at home was to Northeastern, 3-0 on Ocotber 25, 1998... Tina McDavitt moves into 9th place on the Terriers' all-time scoring list with 23 goals and 19 assists for 65 points.
