Softball Ranked in National Statistics

As the B.U. softball season heads towards the homestretch, three Terriers, junior pitcher Robyn King (Ashby, MA), freshman righthander Robyn Horrick (Irvine, CA), and junior second baseman Kerry Herr (New Windsor, NY), find themselves among the nation's leaders in the latest NCAA division I softall statistics released on April 9.
King, a Second Team NFCA Northeast Regional All-America selection in 1998 and 1999, ranks 14th in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings with an 8.8 average. She had 105 strikeouts in 83.1 innings of work through April 9, the best strikeouts per seven innings total in New England division I play. Currently, King leads the Terriers with a 10-3 record to accompany her 1.24 ERA and 115 strikeouts in 90.1 innings, an 8.9 average. Opponents are hitting only .138 against her.
Horrick, who has tallied an 8-4 record, is 31st in the country with a 0.97 ERA, allowing only 11 earned runs in 79.1 innings. In fact, the Terrier pitching staff as a whole has registered a 1.17 ERA, good for 14th in the country through April 9. Currently, the troika of King, Horrick, and senior Mary Colleran (Valencia, CA) has allowed only 37 earned runs all season, good for a 1.10 ERA.
Herr, the 1998 America East Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection the past two seasons, is 14th in triples per game with a 0.16 average. Herr has five triples in the Terriers' 34 games this season and is fourth on the team with a .295 batting average.
The Terriers, who are 22-12 on the season and have won 13 consecutive games, look to improve their statistical exploits on Thursday, April 13 at Holy Cross. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
