Terriers Hold Off Towson, 11-8

BOSTON, MA -- Junior midfielder Chrissy Lombard (Ellicott City, MD) scored four goals, and junior attack Rachel Lieber (Potomac, MD) added two goals and an assist to lead No. 10 Boston University past Towson, 11-8, this afternoon at Nickerson Field.
Towson's Kathryn Beal (Annapolis, MD) scored the game's first goal to put the Tigers ahead 1-0, but that would be their only lead of the day as B.U. scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead with 7:44 to play in the first half.
Lombard, this week's America East Player of the Week, scored her second goal of the game with 1:49 to play in half to put B.U. up 5-3.
The Terriers (9-2) held a 5-3 advantage at intermission.
In the second half, Towson's Cheryl Back (Marlton, NJ) scored her first of two goals with 25:46 to play in the second half to bring the Tigers within one at 5-4.
Junior Renee Vanderbrug (Lexington, MA), and Lombard scored 2:17 apart to move the Terriers ahead 7-4 with 14:30 to play in the game.
Towson's Bridget Harthausen (Towson, MD) scored her second goal of the game at 12:40 to close the gap to 7-5.
B.U. scored the next four goals, as Rachel Lieber tallied twice, and Ericka Hergenroeder (Annapolis, MD), and Lombard added a goal apiece.
The Tigers (3-7) made a late surge as Back and senior midfielder Jennifer Strum (Arnold, MD) scored 20 seconds apart with 4:21 to play. Jamie Neave (Glenolden, PA) added a goal with 2:39 to play for the 11-8 final.
Sophomore goalie Brooke Barrett (Bel Air, MD), who has the best goals against average in Division I with a 4.88 GAA, played all 60 minutes stopping 5 Tiger shots.
Towson's Jacquie Sica, who recorded 17 saves, became Towson's all-time saves leader with 849. She past Mary Bartel ('81) who held the record with 836.
The Terriers host No. 8 Delaware (9-1) on Sunday, April 16th at 12 noon.
