Women's Lacrosse Downs Eighth ranked Delaware, 10-6

BOSTON, MA -- Senior attack Jen Manning (Annapolis, MD) scored three goals and added an assist, and junior midfielder Chrissy Lombard (Ellicott City, MD) scored two goals and assist as 10th ranked Boston University downed 8th ranked Delaware, 10-6, in a game between the America East's two undefeated wome's lacrosse teams this afternoon at Nickerson Field.
The win was the first for Boston University over Delaware in five meetings.
Delaware (10-2) scored the game's first two goals as senior midfielder Sarah Edwards (Moorestown, NJ) and junior defender Katy Hahn (Centerport,NY) tallied scores.
Trailing 2-0, Boston University head coach Sue Murphy called a timeout with 24:11 to play in the first half. Whatever coach Murphy said worked as the Terriers scored five unanswered goals in the following 12 minutes to build a 5-2 lead.
Junior midfielder Kyle Rutkowski (Ellicott City, MD) scored the Terriers' first goal followed by consecutive goals by Jen Manning. The goals for Manning were the 96th and 97th in her career. Sophomore attack Katie Nordhoff (Ellicott City, MD) and sophomore midfielder Ericka Hergenroeder (Annapolis, MD) scored B.U.'s other goals during the run.
The Fightin' Blue Hens answered with goals from junior attack Kate O'Connell (Columbia, MD) and junior attack Megan Fortunato (Hatboro, PA).
Lombard added two goals and junior attack Renee Vanderbrug (Lexington, MA) scored another as the Terriers held an 8-5 lead at intermission.
In the second half both team's goalies proved their worth as B.U.'s Brooke Barrett (Bel Air, MD), and Delaware's Laurie Tortorelli (Havertown, MD) made several key saves.
Brooke Barrett , who has the best goals against average in Division I with a 4.88 GAA, played all 60 minutes stopping 14 Fightin' Blue Hen shots.
Delaware's Laurie Tortorelli had 19 saves.
The Terriers travel to Connecticut to play the Huskies on Wednesday, April 19th at 3:30 p.m.
