Terriers Are Top Seed in Women's Lacrosse Championship

BOSTON, MA (May 1, 2000) -- Boston University completed a perfect America East conference season with a 12-11 come-from-behind win over Hofstra University at Nickerson Field Sunday afternoon (April 30th). With the win, the Terriers (13-3 overall, 6-0 in America East) have earned the top seed in the America East Championship.
Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $1 for students.
Boston University will play host to No. 4 seed University of New Hampshire (7-9, 3-3) in one semifinal Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
Second-seeded University of Delaware (13-3, 5-1) plays host to Hofstra (10-5, 3-2) at 4 p.m. in Wednesday's other semifinal.
The America East Championship game is slated for Saturday at the higher remaining seed.

Undefeated Regular-Season For the first-time in program history, B.U. went undefeated in America East conference play -- This season has been a true testament to the hard work that head coach Sue Murphy, her coaching staff, and their players have put forth. As freshmen and sophomores, B.U.'s season class of Jen Manning, Michelle Ellsworth, Karen Trait, Lisa Sorelle, and Gretchen Goldberg were 2-4, and last season improved to 5-1.
Top Seed With its undefeated America East conference slate, the Terriers have earned their first No. 1 seed in the America East Championships Last season, in its first America East Championships, B.U. was a No. 2 seed.
Terriers On The Move Head coach Sue Murphy has seen her team evolve from an America East newcomer to a top 10 nationally- ranked program. B.U. was 4-11 in 1996, 3-13 in 1997, 8-7 in 1998, 14-5 last season, and can equal the team record for most wins in a season on Wednesday with 14. B.U. is 22-8 in its last 30 games, 27-8 in its last 35 games, 31-9 in its last 40 games, and 35-15 in its last 50 games.
Wildcats Again B.U., a No. 2 seed last season, hosted New Hampshire in the 1999 America East semifinals Chrissy Lombard, Katie Nordhoff, and Kristin Abruzzese each scored 2 goals to pace the Terriers to a 9-2 win.
Scouting the Wildcats Head coach Sandy Bridgeman's University of New Hampshire Wildcats are 7-9 and 3-3 in the America East Conference... The Wildcats lost to Hofstra, 15-11, in their last game on Friday, April 28th... UNH is averaging 10.44 gpg, while allowing 11.06 gpg... Junior midfielder Colleen Christopher leads the Wildcats in scoring with 43 goals and 1 assist for 44 points... Senior midfielder Stephanie Keefe adds 36 goals and 7 assists for 43 points to the Wildcat effort... In goal, junior Amanda Warren posts an 11.91 GAA with 111 saves.
B.U. Against the Tournament Field
No. 2 Delaware Series Notes Delaware leads the overall series, 4-1 ... The Terriers defeated Delaware for the first time in program history on April 16th at Nickerson Field, 10-6. The win snapped The Fightin' Blue Hens four-year, 26-game America East winning streak. Jen Manning had three goals, and Chrissy Lombard added two goals and an assist in the win. Brooke Barrett recorded 14 saves Last season, the Fightin' Blue Hens defeated B.U., 11-8, and 15-8... Junior attack Kyle Rutkowski had 5 goals versus Delaware last season, while junior midfielder Chrissy Lombard and sophomore Kristin Abruzzese had 4 and 2 goals, respectively.
No. 3 Hofstra Series Notes The all-time series is tied at 3-3... On April 30th in Boston, sophomore midfielder Kristin Abruzzese erupted for a career-high five goals and career-best six points as the Terriers won a hard-fought come from behind victory, 12-11. B.U. trailed 8-5 at halftime, and outscored Hofstra, 7-3 in the second half to take the win. Brooke Barrett stopped nine Flying Dutchwomen shots, and Ericka Hergenroeder scored the game-winner with 2:05 to play in the game Last season, B.U. defeated Hofstra, 8-7 in overtime. Ericka Hergenroeder tallied a career-high six goals in the win.
No. 4 New Hampshire Series Notes New Hampshire leads the all-time series, 7-3 ... B.U. has won the last three meetings, 15-11 on April 24th, and twice last season, 17-7 on March 31st in Durham, NH, and 9-2 in the America East semifinals on May 1st... On April 24th, Ericka Hergenroeder scored four goals and added two assists, and Jen Manning and Chrissy Lombard each tallied three goals in the win. Manning became the third player in team history to score 100 goals Brooke Barrett made seven saves.
America East Honors This season the Terriers have been awarded Player of the Week accolades four times, and Defender of the Week honors three times... Chrissy Lombard has been named America East Player of the Week three times, (3/22, 4/10, and 4/17), and Kristin Abruzzese was named Player of the Week for the week ending April 30th. Abruzzese has also earned America East Defender of the Week nods (3/22 and 3/28), and Brooke Barrett took Defender of the Week laurels on April 17th.
Brine/IWLCA Poll For the second week in a row, B.U. is ranked No. 10 in the Brine/IWLCA Division I Women's Lacrosse Poll... The No. 10 ranking is the highest in team history... B.U. was also ranked No. 10 earlier this season.
Barrett Top Goalie in Division I As of April 23rd, sophomore goalie Brooke Barrett led Division I goalies in goals against average for the third straight week with a 6.14 GAA... Barrett was also ranked 13th in save percentage with a .565 mark.
Terriers Have Best Defense in Division I The Boston University women's lacrosse team ranks 1st in Division I in scoring defense in the lastest NCAA team statistics (as of April 23rd)... B.U. had allowed 86 goals in 14 games for a 6.14 gpg average... The Terriers have held the top spot in defense for the last three weeks.
Ten Spot The number 10 has been a key numeral for the Terriers on both offense and defense in the Sue Murphy era... Since 1996, B.U. has a 31-11 (.738) record in games when it holds the opponents under 10 goals... The Terriers also have a 35-7 (.833) mark in games when they score 10 goals or more, including a 26-0 record in their last 26 games scoring 10 or more goals.
Lombard Closes in on Record Junior midfielder Chrissy Lombard needs only seven more points to tie Chris Fleming (84) for the all-time school record of 185 career points... Currently, Lombard has 129 goals and 49 assists for 178 total points... The 129 goals are good for second all-time in the Terriers' all-time record book.
Terrier Milestones Senior attack Jen Manning scored her 99th, 100th, and 101st career goals against UNH on April 24th. She has 102 career goals and 63 career assists for 165 points. She is B.U.'s all-time leader in assists, and her point total ranks third... Also on Monday, junior midfielder Kyle Rutkowski registered her 100th career point. She how has 73-29-102. Her 29 assists are third on B.U.'s all-time list. She is the fourth player in B.U. history to record 100 career points... Sophomore goalie Brooke Barrett is second on the Terriers' all-time saves made list with 270. She needs 16 saves to break Madeera Kathpal's (97) record of 286.
