The National Teams Committee of US Lacrosse is pleased to announce the appointment of Sue Murphy as the Head Coach of the United States Women's National Developmental Squad. The announcement was made by Chip Rogers, the Chair of the National Teams Committee.
Murphy is currently the head coach at Boston University and has been there for five years. This season, she guided the Terriers to their first-ever NCAA berth and the America East Conference regular season and tournament titles. In 1996 Murphy took over the reins of a team that had been reinstated to varsity status and led the Terriers to a 4-11 record.
Just five years later, she has the team at a 15-3 clip, which ranks second in the nation in winning percentage. The America East Coach of the Year in both 1999 and 2000, Murphy has also coached the America East Rookie of the Year in 1998 and two America East Players of the Year (1999, 2000).
A graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Murphy was a two-time All-American for the Minutewomen and was also a member of the field hockey team. She was a member of the USLacrosse National Squad from 1990-1992.
Murphy serves as the chair of the selection committee for national teams for the women's division of USLacrosse. She is also the College Coaches Representative on the USLacrosse Women's Division Board of Governors and serves in the same capacity on the USLacrosse Executive Committee.
"We are excited to have Sue lead the Developmental Squad for the next three years," said Rogers.
