BURLINGTON, VT -- Senior forward Kate Cusick (Allentown, PA) scored twice and freshman Genna Clough (Portsmouth, NH) scored her first collegiate goal as the 15th-ranked Boston University field hockey team defeated Vermont, 5-1 on September 27.
With the win, B.U. improves to 7-2 overall, 4-0 in the America East. Vermont falls to 3-5, 0-1. It is the 14th-straight win over a conference opponent for the Terriers, and fifth-straight win overall.
Junior midfielder Felicia Cappabianca (North Caldwell, NJ) opened the scoring with 11:38 to go in the opening half. It was Cappabianca's second goal of the season.
Cusick took over the team lead in goals with her fourth and fifth tallies of the season to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead with just over two minutes gone in the second half. Clough's goal made the score 4-0 before Whitney Gage got the Catamounts on the board 13 minutes into the second half.
Junior midfielder Casey Holman (Bridgeton, NJ) closed out the scoring for the Terriers with 5:08 remaining.
Holly Colberg stopped 16 shots for Vermont. B.U. goalkeeper Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, NH) recorded eight stops, seven in the second half. The Terriers held the advantage in penalty corners as well, 9-3. B.U. returns home to face it's toughest test so far this season, No. 2-ranked Old Dominion University on Saturday, September 30 at noon. The Lady Monarchs handed the Terriers a 6-5 setback at Old Dominion last season. B.U. had trailed 4-1 in the game before rallying to tie the score at 5-5, before a late goal gave Old Dominion the victory.
