October 13, 2002 | Women's Tennis
The third-seeded Yale women's tennis team won the first four singles matches and eliminated the sixth-seeded Terriers, 4-0, on Sunday (October 13th) in the rain-shortened ECAC Tournament at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.
B.U. advanced to the second round of the tournament when it defeated unseeded University of Connecticut, 6-0, on Saturday.
Because of the rain and cold weather and previous team matches being postponed, the Terrier-Yale match did not get underway until late afternoon. As a result, the decision was made to play the singles matches first, and, if it were necessary, the doubles matches would follow.
As Yale won the first four singles matches that were completed, it was not necessary to finish the final two singles matches or play doubles.
Junior Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) lost at number one singles, 6-4, 6-2, while junior Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) dropped her number two singles match, 6-0, 6-2. Zuzana Melicherova (Caracas, Venezuela) lost at number three, 6-3, 6-5. Finally, junior Yale Defeats Terriers In ECAC Women's Tennis
