October 27, 2002 | Field Hockey
ALBANY, N. Y. - Junior forward Celeste Hubbard (Detroit, Mich.) and junior midfielder Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, Calif.) each scored a pair of goals to lead the Boston University field hockey team to a dominating 5-0 victory over Albany on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Albany Field. The Terriers rebounded from a 2-1, double-overtime, loss at Vermont on Friday.
After not playing a game on a grass field in over two years, the Terriers played their second grass game in three days. The Terriers' game against Vermont was also played on a grass field.
B. U. (11-7, 2-2 America East) dominated the game from the start, outshooting the Great Danes, 32-5, and earning 11 penalty corners to Albany's two.
Hubbard gave B. U. a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, when she scored off a rebound with a high shot. She added her 11th goal of the season when she dribbled past the goalkeeper and found an empty cage 4:57 into the second half.
The Terriers scored three more times over the next 12 minutes. Banuelos converted a penalty stroke at 41:20, and slapped home a rebound two minutes later to give B. U. a 4-0 advantage. Freshman forward Caitlyn Cassara (North Caldwell, N. J.) scored the Terriers' last goal at 51:16.
Senior Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, N. H.) and sophomore Jodie Gardner (Unionville, Conn.) combined for the shutout for the Terriers, who have won eight of their last 10 starts. Albany's Megan Akstin totaled a career-high 23 saves.
The Terriers, ranked 16th in the nation in this week's STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, wrap up their regular season with two home games this week. They host Harvard on Wednesday, Oct. 30, in a non-conference game. Game time at MIT's Jack Barry Field is 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Terriers host Northeastern in an important America East contest at 1 p.m.
