The Terrier women's tennis team dropped its spring break finale on Saturday (March 9th) to the University of Virginia, 6-1. With the loss, the Terriers closed out their annual trip to Florida with a 1-2 record.
Sophomore Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) accounted for B.U.'s only point when she posted a 7-5, 6-4 win at number two singles.
The match against the nationally-ranked Cavaliers was much closer than the final score would indicate as two of the Terrier losses went to three sets.
Senior Christina Causway (Wilson, NC) won her first set at number one singles, 7-5, but lost the next two, 3-6, 2-6. Then, at number three singles, sophomore Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) lost her first set, 4-6, but bounced back to win the second set, 6-2.
However, she lost the third and deciding set, 1-6. The Terriers lost their other three singles' matches. Freshman Silvia Guglielmi (Rome, Italy) lost at number four, 3-6, 3-6. Junior Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) lost, 3-6, 3-6, at number five, and Elisa Glas (Irun, Spain) lost at number six, 2-6, 2-6.
The Cavaliers also won all three doubles matches and thus entered the singles play ahead, 1-0.
DeMendoza and Guglielmi played an excellent match at number two doubles before losing, 8-6. Causway and Dynof last at number one, 8-4, while Marcu and sophomore Hannah Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) were blanked at number three, 8-0
