Field Hockey Opens Season With 2-1 Win At Massachusetts

Amherst, Mass. - Junior forward Lindsey Domers snapped a 1-1 tie with a goal 10 minutes into the second half to propel the Boston University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory at intrastate rival Massachusetts on Saturday, August 31. UMass (0-1) took the early lead on a penalty corner by freshman Jaime Bawden at at the 27:17 mark of the first half.
B. U. (1-0) tied the game with 12 seconds to go in the first half when junior midfielder Celeste Hubbard scored on a corner on an assist by sophomore back Lauren Vendetti.
Domers' goal, at 49:11, came on an assist by sophomore back Adrienne Scibilia. The score gave the Terriers a 2-1 lead and their first win over the Minutewomen since 1999.
The assist was the first career point for Scibilia. Last season, Domers was tied for the team lead in game-winning goals with two.
B. U. senior goalkeeper Susan Harrigan made seven saves in the cage, while UMass goalie Christine Tocco and Ashley Egland combined for three saves.
Boston University returns to action on Monday, September 2, when it hosts Quinnipiac at 1 p.m. at MIT's Jack Barry Field.
