Banuelos, Cassara Lead Terriers Past American

College Park, Md. -Junior Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, CA) scored her second goal of the season and freshman Caitlyn Cassara (North Caldwell, NJ) added her first collegiate goal to lead the Terrier field hockey team to a 2-1 win over American University
The victory came in the first round of the Sixth Annual Terrapin Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland.
The win ended a two-game losing streak for the Terriers, who are now 3-2 this season. In the meantime, American slipped to 3-2. B.U. will be off on Saturday before it takes on tournament host University of Maryland on Sunday. The Terps, who are currently ranked number one in the nation, shut out the University of Massachusetts, 4-0, in the tournament's other first-round game.
The Terriers opened the scoring against American at 31:54 when Banuelos scored on a penalty shot. To that point, American had controlled play as evidenced by its eight penalty corners. However, the play of junior goalkeeper Susan Harrington (Detroit, MI), plus the Terriers' penalty corner defense kept American off the scoreboard.
Banuelos' goal stood up for the remainder of the first half and early in the second half.
Then, at the 38:40 mark, Cassara scored on an unassisted goal as she collected a loose ball and beat AU keeper Laura Miller. American finally got on the scoreboard at the 53:15 mark when Magdelena Aguilar took the ball after a stick stop and beat Harrington.
The Terriers, who enjoyed a 5-2 advantage in shots in the second half, finished the game with 10 shots to eight for American. Harrington had four saves, while Miller had two for American.
