Cassara Notches Game-Winning Goal, Earns Rookie Honor
September 16, 2002 | Field Hockey

BOSTON - Boston University forward Caitlyn Cassara (North Caldwell, N. J.) broke through with her first career goal - a game-winning score to give the Terriers a 2-1 win over American University on Sept. 13 - which earned the freshman her first America East Rookie of the Week honor.
With the game deadlocked at 1-1 early in the second half, Cassara collected a loose ball in front of the American cage and beat the Eagles' goalkeeper to give the Terriers the one-goal lead. The Terriers' strong defense did the rest, holding AU to just two second-half shots.
Cassara has started each of the Terriers' six games, and has recorded five shots in those games. Cassara has stood out in a Terrier offense which has scored 11 goals in only 44 shots.
The win over American came in the first round of the 2002 Terrapin Classic, hosted by the University of Maryland. In B. U.'s two other games during the week, a pair of 1-0 losses at No. 14 Boston College on Sept. 11 and at the No. 1 Terps on Sept. 15, the Terriers did not record a shot.
Boston University (3-3) next hosts Dartmouth on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at MIT's Jack Barry Field. Game time is 3 p.m.
