Domers, Banuelos Lead Terriers To 7-1 Over Quinnipiac
September 2, 2002 | Field Hockey

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior forward Lindsey Domers (Voorhees, NJ) scored two goals, and junior midfielder Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, CA) added one goal and two assists, leading the Boston University field hockey team to a convincing, 7-1, victory over Quinnipiac University on Monday, Sept. 2, at MIT's Jack Barry Field.
Boston University (2-0) got a balanced scoring effort from its offense, as six Terriers scored goals in the game. The win was the 250th for Sally Starr as the Terriers' head coach. Currently in her 22nd season at B. U., Starr has amassed a record of 250-154-19.
Quinnipiac (0-2) opened the scoring 5:29 into the game, as freshman forward Danielle Avenoso tipped the ball into the Terrier goal to give the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead.
The Quinnipiac lead wouldn't last, though, as sophomore midfielder/back Kara Rossi (North Salem, NY) scored her first career goal off a rebound to tie the score at 1-1 at 15:42 of the first half.
B. U. took the lead for good with 1:56 left in the half, as Domers took a pass off a Terrier penalty corner from Banuelos and beat the Bobcats' freshman goalkeeper Erin McKay to make the score 2-1.
After giving up the early goal, the B. U. defense stiffened, giving up only one second-half shot and four overall. The Terriers broke the game open off another penalty corner six minutes into the second half. Banuelos took a short pass from junior midfielder Celeste Hubbard (Detroit, MI) and scored to give the Terriers a 3-1 lead.
Four Terriers scored their first career goals in the game. Forward Natalie DiSabato (New Albany, OH) and midfielder Amy Seaman (Cedar Cliff, PA), both freshmen, scored goals. Rossi and sophomore midfielder Erin Burke-Webster (Rochester, NY) also tallied their first career goals in the game.
B. U. goalkeeper Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, NH) was forced to make only one first-half save. She was spelled by sophomore Jodie Gardner (Unionville, CT) with 8:44 left in the game. McKay made seven saves for the Bobcats.
The Terriers next play on Saturday, Sept. 7, when they host William & Mary at MIT's Jack Barry Field in Cambridge. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
