High Winds Don't Hamper Terriers In Shutout Of Vermont
October 15, 2003 | Field Hockey
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Playing in winds gusting over 50 miles per hour, Boston University had no problem blowing past the visiting University of Vermont field hockey team, 4-0, in an America East Conference game on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
With the wind at their backs in the first half, the Terriers scored less than three minutes into the game. Senior midfielder Lindsey Domers (Voorhees, N. J. / Eastern) drove to the left of Vermont sophomore goalkeeper Ariel Eber and deposited the ball in the back right corner to give B. U. an early 1-0 lead.
Domers and junior forward Kara Rossi (North Salem, N. Y. / North Salem) combined at 14:37 to double the B. U. advantage. Domers sent a sharp pass to Rossi, who took a step to the right and put it into the cage to make the score 2-0.
Rossi would add an unassisted goal, a tipped ball into the cage after a rebound, 10 minutes later to make it 3-0. It was her first career multiple goal game.
Vermont (1-14, 0-2 America East) made a charge early in the second half, controlling the ball in its offensive zone for the opening minutes of the half, but B. U. was the team to capitalize, as senior forward Celeste Hubbard (Detroit, Mich. / University Liggett) took advantage of an out-of-position Eber and scored to give B. U. a 4-0 lead 11 minutes into the half.
B. U. (7-6, 2-2 America East) was credited with 20 shots, while Vermont had five. The Terriers owned a slight 6-5 advantage in corners. Eber was forced to make 10 saves, while redshirt freshman goalkeeper Erin Prediger (Telford, Pa. / Souderton Area) made one save in recording her second career shutout.
Hubbard led all players with six shots. Domers had five for the Terriers.
B. U. steps out of conference to host American University on Sunday, Oct. 19 at Jack Barry Field. Game time is 1 p.m.
