BOSTON - As the B.U. women's lacrosse team extended its win streak to eight games with three victories last week, three individuals were recognized by the America East for their efforts.
Sophomore goalkeeper Anne Sheridan (Baltimore, MD) was named Player of the Week, junior defender Sasha Lang (Cornish, NH) was named Defender of the Week, and freshman attacker Mary Beth Miller (Berlin, NJ) was named Rookie of the Week.
Earning her third weekly honor of the season, Sheridan was named America East Player of the Week after leading the Terriers to three victories. Sheridan made nine saves, including seven in the second half, in the Terriers' 7-6 upset of 11th-ranked Syracuse. Sheridan also had 10 saves in an 11-4 win over Connecticut and collected the win as the Terriers defeated conference-foe Stony Brook, 19-5.
Sheridan leads America East and ranks ninth in the nation with a 7.50 goals against average. Her .563 save percentage also leads the conference and ranks 11th in the nation.
In addition to her America East award, Sheridan was also recognized as a Warrior/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week honorable mention selection. As a team, B.U. earned its first national ranking, vaulting into the 18th position on the Warrior/Inside Lacrosse.com Power Poll.
Lang earned America East Defender of the Week honors for the second time this season after pacing a defense which allowed just five goals a game in the three wins. Lang totaled nine caused turnovers and five ground balls on the defense and added three goals on the attack.
On the season, Lang leads the team and ranks fifth in the conference in caused turnovers, averaging 1.79 a game. She anchors the nation's third-lowest scoring defense in the nation, which has allowed an average of 6.571 goals a game.
Miller scored nine goals and added five assists to raise her season goal-scoring total to a team-high 34 goals. Miller had a career-high eight-point effort against Stony Brook, tallying four goals while also assisting on four scores. Miller had four goals and an assist against Connecticut and chipped in a goal against Syracuse.
One of four Terrier freshmen to total double-digit points this season, Miller ranks third in the league in goals (2.43 gpg) and fourth in the league in scoring (3.29 ppg). Miller is also third on the team in draw controls with 30.
B.U. (10-4, 3-0) aims for the America East regular season title when it plays at Vermont and New Hampshire this weekend. The Terriers take on the Catamounts on Friday, April 25, at 4:00 p.m., and the Wildcats on Sunday, April 27, at 1:00 p.m.
