LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Boston University field hockey team scored three goals in the first 16 minutes and held on for a 3-2 non-conference victory over Saint Louis at the University of Louisville's Trager Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 7.
B. U. (2-0) opened the scoring when senior forward Celeste Hubbard (Detroit, Mich. / University Liggett) and senior midfielder Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, Calif. / San Pasqual) combined on a cross to make the score 1-0 just 6:32 into the game. It was Banuelos' first goal of the season.
Less than three minutes later, senior forward Lindsey Domers (Voorhees, N. J. / Eastern) doubled the Terriers' advantage with an unassisted goal. Midway through the first half, freshman forward Caroline Kwik (Driebergen, Netherlands / KSG DeBreul) gave B. U. a 3-0 lead with an unassisted score at 15:50.
B. U. dominated the statistics, as they finished the game with 18 shots compared to the Billikens' two. The Terriers held a 14-3 advantage in penalty corners as well.
Saint Louis (0-5) wasn't out of the game, however, as freshman Kristin Lueders scored with 8:20 remaining in the first half to cut the B. U. lead to 3-1.
Billiken senior Alisa Hebert added another goal with 13:22 left in the game to make it 3-2, but they could not add another. The two goals were the only two balls Saint Louis put on Terrier freshman goalkeeper Erin Prediger (Telford, Pa. / Souderton Area), who got the win, her second in only her second career start.
The Terriers play their first home game of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 10, when they host Boston College at MIT's Jack Barry Field at 7:30 p.m.
