Terriers Ranked 17th In First STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll

2003 STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll BOSTON - Boston University is ranked 17th in the first STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, as voted upon by National Field Hockey Coaches Association member coaches. The Terriers opened their season with a pair of wins over the University of Louisville and Saint Louis University.
B. U. received 110 overall points. Wake Forest University, the defending NCAA Division I champions, are first with 531 points and 12 first-place votes. The University of North Carolina, the University of Maryland, Penn State University, and Duke University round out the top five.
The Terriers face seven members of the first STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll in 2003. In addition to games at Wake Forest and Duke, the Terriers play at the University of Connecticut, which is tied for 10th, Princeton (10th), America East rival Northeastern University (12th), and Boston College (20th). B. U. has already dispatched the 15th-ranked Louisville Cardinals, 2-1, in overtime on Sept. 6.
Four team that are in the "Also Receiving Votes" section of the poll are on the Terriers' 2003 schedule. Harvard University, the University of New Hampshire, the University of Maine, and the University of Massachusetts are Terrier opponents this season.
