No. 21 Terriers Dominate Retrievers In 3-0 Victory

CAMBRIDGE, Mass - With a trio of first-half scores, the 21st-ranked Boston University field hockey team earned a 3-0 win over America East rival UMBC at a rain-drenched Jack Barry Field on Friday, Oct. 15.
The Terriers improve to 8-5 overall and remain unbeaten in the conference with a 3-0 mark. UMBC falls to 4-10 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Senior forward Kari Rossi (North Salem, N.Y.) collected a pass from classmate Jennifer Joyce (Litiz, Pa.) and fired a shot into the left corner of the goal at 32:37 to give B.U. an early 1-0 lead.
Junior midfielder Colleen McClay (Mahopac, N.Y.) extended the lead to 2-0, dribbling through the UMBC defense and firing a shot into the goal at 6:36 in the first half.
Off a feed from sophomore midfielder Amy Seaman (Camp Hill, Pa.), freshman forward Sarah Shute (Lincolnville, Maine) pushed the lead to 3-0 with a goal with 2:47 left in the first half.
The Terriers had 11 second-half shots but were unable to put another score on the board.
B.U. out-shot the Retrievers 25-3 in the game. UMBC goalkeeper Meghan Polek held strong for the Retrievers, stopping a game-high nine shots. UMBC also made two defensive stops. Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Prediger (Telford, Pa.) made three saves for the Terriers.
The Terriers wrap up their four-game homestand with a non-conference game against Yale on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 2:00 p.m.
