Field Hockey Blasts Albany, 7-1

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Seniors Jen Joyce (Lititz, Pa.) and Lauren Vendetti (Ashland, Mass.) each scored two goals, pacing Boston University to a 7-1 victory over the University at Albany in America East field hockey action on Friday, Oct. 22 in Schenectady, N.Y.
With the victory, their fifth in the last six games, the Terriers improve to 10-5 and 4-0 in America East play and for the moment move into a first-place tie with Northeastern University atop the America East standings. B.U. and NU play on Sunday, Oct. 24 at MIT's Jack Barry Field at 1 p.m. The winner of that game will control its only destiny in terms of securing the top seed, and tournament hosting rights, for next month's America East Field Hockey Championship. Albany falls to 7-9, 2-2.
B.U. scored five goals in the first half, all in the final 18:03 of the period. Senior Jen Joyce (Lititz, Pa.) opened the scoring at 18:03 to give the Terriers a lead they would not give up.
Joyce followed with her second goal 2:30 later to double the Terriers advantage. Senior Adrienne Scibilia (Ringoes, N.J.) scored her first goal of the season at 9:08, and senior Kara Rossi (North Salem, N.Y.) added a goal with 2:45 remaining in the half. Vendetti made it 5-0 in favor of the Terriers with a penalty-corner score with 31 seconds to go in the half.
Albany spoiled the Terriers' shutout bid with 26:37 remaining. Danielle Costello scored to make the score 5-1. Spuehler and Vendetti added late goals to secure the victory. Vendetti's second goal, on a penalty corner, came with seven seconds remaining.
Sophomore Amy Seaman (Camp Hill, Pa.) had two assists and junior Colleen McClay (Mahopac, N.Y.) contributed with a career-high three assists.
The Terriers held an 18-7 advantage in shots. B.U. sophomore goalkeeper Erin Prediger (Telford, Pa.) was credited with four saves.
