BOSTON - Sophomores Lindsay Lewis (Glenelg, MD) and Kaitlyn Cuneo (Marlton, NJ) were named to the 2004 IWLCA Division I North All-Region Teams, as it was announced on Thursday, May 27, by Cornell University head coach Jenny Graap, chair of the IWLCA Division I North Region committee.
Boston University's leading scorer and MVP, Lewis was named to the North All-Region First Team. After a breakout sophomore campaign, Cuneo was named to the North All-Region Second Team.
Lewis led the Terriers and ranked fifth in America East in scoring with 50 goals and 16 assists for 66 total points. The 50 goals scored are the second-highest single-season goal total behind Chris Fleming's 62 goals in 1984. A dynamic athlete who can play at the both attack and midfield positions, Lewis also led the team in draw controls (45), ground balls (42), and game-winning goals (3).
A Second Team Regional All-American in 2003, Lewis had 17 multiple-point efforts during her sophomore season. She scored a goal in all 19 games to extend her program-record goal-scoring streak to 34 games. In addition to her regional accolades, Lewis was also named to the All-Conference Second Team and America East All-Tournament Team.
A defensive specialist in 2003, Cuneo was moved into the midfield as a sophomore where she enjoyed a breakout season on both ends of the field. Starting all 19 games, Cuneo ranked fifth on the team in scoring with career-highs of 26 goals, seven assists, and 33 total points. In a lineup depleted by injuries, Cuneo played a pivotal role in the defensive unit, contributing 38 ground balls, 22 draw controls, and 10 caused turnovers. Cuneo was honored by the America East with First Team All-Conference accolades.
Lewis and Cuneo are two of 11 starters returning for Boston University next season. In 2004, the Terriers posted a 9-10 overall record, a 5-1 mark in America East play, and reached the America East title game for the sixth consecutive season.
